Sports Bet of the Week – Multibet 27 January 2012

Sports Bet of the Week

This weeks sports bet sees a return of the FA Cup as well as the final of the KFC Big Bash. We’ve also included the last men’s semi final and the women’s final of the Australian Open. To increase our odds and give us a bit more variety we’ve also included some of our traditional sports bets from the European football leagues.

Australian Open Tennis

Our multibet kicks off tonight with the semi final of the Australian Open between Novak Djokovic and Andy Murray. Djokovic has been struggling over the last couple of matches, it’s been put down to breathing issues. However, this has worked in our favour as his price is quite good considering he has had these issues for some time. They haven’t hampered his results in the past and I can’t see any reason they will tonight. We’ve taken the -4.5 game handicap in this one at $1.80.

The women’s final gets underway tomorrow night, we’ve taken the under 21.5 games option in this one. 4 out of the 6 matches between these two have ended in 2 sets and I see the same happening tomorrow.

KFC Big Bash Final

Our sports bet for this week heads to Perth for the KFC Big Bash final tomorrow night and for this one we’ve taken a less than conventional multibet leg. Being a final I don’t think there will be too many fireworks and there were great odds for the under 10.5 sixes option at $1.90.

Football – FA Cup

The FA Cup gets underway tomorrow night and we’ve selected 3 games from the round four action for this weeks multibet. Liverpool v Manchester United is the pick of the matches and we couldn’t go past the handicap option for the away side here. Manchester United +0.5 @ $1.46 is good value as I can’t see Liverpool getting any more than a draw after 90 minutes.

We’ve also gone for that option in the Brighton v Newcastle match, Newcastle should secure at least a draw by full time in that one.

Arsenal v Aston Villa is the final FA Cup leg, we’ve taken the under 2.5 option in this one as Arsenal have shown recently in the FA Cup that goals are hard to come by. Up against Premier League opposition I can’t see too many goals being scored once again.

Football – European

Our European football legs kick off tonight with the Dutch Eerste Divisie in full swing. Goals are the order of the day in this league and we’ve picked one match as a special to go over 2.5 goals, Eindhoven at home to Veendam.

In other European football matches we’ve taken the under 2.5 option in the Toulouse v Caen French Ligue 1 match. We’ve taken that same option in our multibet for the Serie A match between Fiorentina v Siena.

In the last leg of our sports bet, we couldn’t go past the over 2.5 option in the Villarreal v Barcelona match in La Liga. Barcelona score goals for fun in La Liga and despite their aversion to scoring goals away from home, this shouldn’t be an issue against Villareal. Odds of $1.50 were too good to turn down.

So there you have it, our sports bet of the week. This weeks multibet ended up with odds of $126.34. Let us know if you have any bets of your own to share in the comments section.

English Premier League Preview – 2011/12 – Week 21

Welcome to our English Premier League preview for week 21. After a weeks hiatus due to round 3 of the FA Cup, the Premier League returns back to our screens this weekend in all its glory. This should be a cracking week too with things heating up at both ends of the table now that we are over half way through the season.

Tottenham continue to surprise, they had a 2-0 win over Everton mid-week and now sit just 3 points off the top of the table. Manchester City still sit alone at the top, but now have 2 sides chasing them. All teams have now played 20 matches so from here on in we have no teams with a game in hand. This should make it easier to keep track of where teams stand in the race for the title, and the battle to avoid relegation.

English Premier League Preview

English Premier League Preview
Saturday

We kick off this Premier League preview with a run of 7 games at 2am our time Sunday morning. 4 of the top 6 sides are in action in this timeslot with Chelsea, Liverpool, Manchester United and Tottenham all at home.

Chelsea take on a rejuvenated Sunderland side at Stamford Bridge following a last up win over Portsmouth in the FA Cup. Sunderland also had a win in the 3rd round of the FA Cup with a 2-0 victory over Peterborough United. Both sides also won their respective Premier League matches just over a week ago. Chelsea with a 2-1 win away from home against Wolves, and Sunderland thrashing Wigan 4-1, also away from home.

Sunderland have climbed up into the top half of the ladder after being close to the relegation zone just before Christmas. This is no doubt due to the influence of new manager Martin O’Neill. The club is now going from strength to strength following the sacking of Steve Bruce. Chelsea sit 11 points behind Manchester City at the top of the table. They’re currently in 4th place and they have been inconsistent at best under Villas-Boas. It will be interesting to see whether the deal for Gary Cahill goes through in time for this match and whether the manager is given any further funds for reinforcements.

With this one being at Stamford Bridge I think Chelsea will grab the win here but it won’t come easy.

Liverpool take on Stoke City at Anfield following their 1-0 win over Manchester City in the Carling Cup Semi Final First Leg mid-week. However prior to this they were taken apart in a 3-0 demolition by that same club in week 20 of the Premier League.

Stoke had a 3-1 win over Blackburn Rovers last time out, and currently sit in 8th place on the table. They have not had a great record away from home this season with just 8 goals scored and 20 against in 10 matches. Liverpool are undefeated at home, however 60% of those matches have ended up in a draw, with just the 4 wins from 10 matches.

I think this one will go in Liverpool’s favour though, that win over Manchester City mid-week would have got them pumped up. They also have a fit again Steven Gerrard to control their midfield again.

Manchester United host 18th placed Bolton Wanderers and are coming off the back of a surprise 3-0 defeat to Newcastle United in the Premier League. They made up for that with a 3-2 win over Manchester City in the FA Cup 3rd round last weekend. Bolton are resigned to losing their star centre back, Gary Cahill, to Chelsea and will hope that he is still a Bolton player at least for this match.

This match should be pretty cut and dried, I can’t see Bolton coming close to Manchester United at Old Trafford. You can almost bet your house on this one.

Tottenham take on Wolves at White Hart Lane and they are coming off the back of a 2-0 mid-week win over Everton. This match was postponed earlier in the season and they no longer have that game in hand, they say that it’s better to have the 3 points in hand though. Now Tottenham sit in equal second place on points with Manchester United, only goal difference has them in 3rd place. They have surprised so far this season and it will be interesting to see whether they can keep it up for the second half.

Wolves currently sit in 16th place on the table and are coming off a narrow 2-1 loss to Chelsea in their last Premier League match. They also have an FA Cup replay to contend with soon as they drew 0-0 with Birmingham last weekend.

I can’t go past Tottenham at home in this one as much as it pains me to say. They could be level on Points at the top of the table with Manchester City not playing until Monday.

In other earlier matches Aston Villa host Everton at Villa Park. Aston Villa are coming off a 2-0 loss to Swansea in the Premier League but made it through to round 4 of the FA Cup with a 3-1 win over Bristol Rovers. Everton went down 2-0 to Tottenham in their mid-week fixture, and 2-1 to Bolton a fortnight ago. They currently sit outside the top half in 11th place for the first time I can remember. They will need some serious reinforcements if they are going to get anywhere near the European places this season.

These mid table clashes usually produce quality football, I think Everton will bounce back in this one and get themselves back into that top half.

Bottom placed Blackburn Rovers host Fulham at Ewood Park following their exit from the FA Cup at the hands of Newcastle United. Fulham annihilated Charlton 4-0 in their match and are also coming off a last start Premier League win over Arsenal. They won that match 2-1 but they still sit in 14th place on the table, they’d like to be a lot higher and a win here could push them into the top half.

Blackburn have little hope of avoiding relegation if statistics are anything to go by. West Brom are the only team in the last 7 years to finish bottom at Christmas and avoid relegation. The other 6 finished on the bottom.

I think Fulham will grab the 3 points in this one, Blackburn’s home record is enough to sway me in that direction.

The last of the Saturday matches sees West Brom hosting Norwich City at the Hawthorns following their 4-2 win over Cardiff City in the FA Cup. Norwich also had a big win in the FA Cup, beating Burnley 4-1 to progress to the 4th round. West Brom had a 1-0 loss in the Premier League against Tottenham a fortnight ago, while Norwich beat QPR 2-1.

Norwich have impressed this season and are currently sitting in 9th place on the table. West Brom sit in 15th and don’t have a very good home record. For that reason I will take the draw in this one, Norwich’s away form is enough for me to see a share of the spoils in this one.

English Premier League Preview
Sunday

The first of the Sunday matches (Monday morning our time) in the Premier League sees Newcastle United hosting QPR at the Sports Direct Arena. Newcastle surprised everyone with a thumping 3-0 win over Manchester United in their last EPL match, and continued their form in the FA Cup with a 2-1 win over Blackburn Rovers. QPR have an FA Cup replay to look forward to after their match with MK Dons was drawn 1-1. They also lost 2-1 to Norwich City in the English Premier League and sit just a point outside the relegation zone.

QPR now have a new manager in Mark Hughes after Neil Warnock was given the boot. Rumours are floating around that QPR have a fairly hefty war chest to hand the new manager in January, so we’ll see what comes of this over the next couple of weeks.

A new manager can do amazing things to a team, as seen with Sunderland, so I think QPR will be up for this one. I predict a high scoring match but Newcastle should just have enough in them to get the 3 points.

Next up we have Arsenal away to Swansea following their narrow 1-0 win over Leeds in the FA Cup. They had the legend that is Thierry Henry to thank for that goal and I thought it only fitting to include footage of that in this preview, enjoy!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gINlrSLbAq8

Despite the King’s return, Arsenal still have to contend with the fact that they didn’t create much against Leeds on that night. Also, their 2-1 loss to Fulham dropped them down to 5th on the table with Liverpool and Newcastle breathing down their neck.

It will be interesting to see how Wenger uses Henry in this one after resting Robin van Persie for the last match. An Henry – van Persie partnership up front would be unbelievable to see and I don’t think Swansea would be able to cope. Arsenal should have too much for Swansea despite playing away from home, this match should have plenty of entertainment.

English Premier League Preview
Monday

Last up on Tuesday morning our time we’ll see league leaders Manchester City away from home to second from bottom Wigan Athletic. Manchester City have been knocked out of the FA Cup and are looking at an elimination from the Carling Cup following their first leg loss. They lost 1-0 to Liverpool courtesy of a Steven Gerrard penalty and they’ll also go into this one without their best defender in Vincent Kompany. He’ll miss a couple more too following his straight red card a couple of weeks ago.

Wigan at home have not been too crash hot this season, and Manchester City have also been a bit susceptible away from home so far. I can’t see this one going any other way than a win to Man City though to be honest. They’ll be hurting following their recent losses and they’ll put all of their best available players out for this one.

Steve’s Sports Bet of the Week – FA Cup Special

Steve’s Sports Bet of the Week

This week our Sportingbet Sports Bet takes on a cup flavour with Round 3 of the FA Cup in action and the Premier League having a well earned break. We also welcome back a couple of the European leagues after a winter hiatus so we finally have a bit of variety to ensure we get some good value in this weeks sports bet!

This week our sports bet incorporates 12 legs and a payout of $78.85 for a $1 investment. We’ve taken 7 legs of the sports bet in the FA Cup, 2 from the Serie A and the remaining 3 legs from La Liga following their return from the winter break.

For the FA Cup we’ve taken a mixture of heavyweights against minnows and also some lower league clashes for the 7 legs. Arsenal v Leeds last year was a low scoring affair so the over 2.5 was too risky, I think Arsenal will be too strong for Leeds this year and with the possible return of Thierry Henry and a home match this should be as good as a sure thing. Liverpool and Everton should also have fairly easy matches so we’ve also gone outrights in these 2 matches for the sports bet. Wolves should have too much for a now Championship Birmingham side but to cover the possibility of a draw we’ve given Wolves a +0.5 handicap. Swansea away from home at Barnsley shouldn’t produce too many goals so under 3.5 should cover that one. In our final FA Cup leg, Aston Villa travel to Bristol and I can see there being a  few goals here, hence the over 2.5 option for this leg of the sports bet.

In the Italian league, Udinese and Cesena have had the most amount of under 2.5 games this season in the Serie A, so we thought the under 2.5 option for their clash would be fitting. Similarly, the Cagliari v Genoa leg has also been selected for their fear of scoring goals with the under 2.5 option.

The sports bet rounds out with 3 matches from La Liga, with Barcelona and Real Madrid both in action, the over 2.5 option for both matches was too good to turn down based on their form of late. The final leg of the sports bet sees Villareal and Valencia going head to head, this will be a low scoring match and we’ve gone for the under 2.5 option in this one.

Check out this week’s sports bet and let us know if you have any multibet’s of your own for this weekend.

Good luck and happy punting!

Steve's Sports Bet - FA Cup Special - 6 January 2012

Steve’s Sports Bet of the Week – Holiday Special 2011

With the Holiday season upon us, it’s very hard to put a decent sports bet together due to most of the European football leagues going into a winter hiatus. We thought a bit of Christmas cheer was in order so we tried our best to find some good value for this weeks sports bet.

We’ve managed to search out some of the best bets across a variety of the leagues that are in action though and have come up with an 8 leg sports bet with odds of $42.51/1. Not too bad considering what was on offer. In addition to our usual sports bet, I thought I would go one step further this week. So I put together a bumper Barclays Premier League sports bet to try and bring us a bit more Christmas cheer!

Our Christmas EPL sports bet is paying $91.88/1 so it’s good value and we haven’t really taken too many risks in this one either, unlike last week where we topped it up with a draw, although that leg did get up we figured we’d play it a bit safer this week.

With most of the big guns playing at home against weaker opposition we figured that the over 2.5 option would be the basis for our EPL sports bet this week, with the remainder of the legs split between unders and outright wins or handicaps to give us a bit more value in the multi

Anyway, hope everyone had a great Christmas and good luck with this weeks multibet!

It’s that time again, time to try and take the bookie’s money. Last week we managed to get 8 from 11 on the multibet, we were let down 3 out of 4 games on the Monday morning and all we needed was literally 1 more goal in each of the games and we would have had a massive payout.

This week I’ve gone along the same lines, mainly going for the overs and unders while also going for a couple of outrights just to break things up. This week I’ve split the legs more evenly over the British and European football leagues so we have less reliance on any particular league.

The payout is half as much as last weeks with odds of $47.36 but this is due to there being less risks taken overall.

Hit us up in the comments section if you have any multibet’s that you think are a chance this weekend, or just any general comments on the multibet we have put up this week.

Good luck and happy punting!

Steve’s Sportingbet Multi of the Week – 9 December 2011

Another week, another multi. This week I’ve gone with more unders and overs as they seem to be working the best for us lately. In saying that though we have gone with a couple of straight up bets taking Arsenal and Celtic to win outright.

The odds for this weeks multi come to $103.79/1 so it’s not a bad return considering we haven’t taken too many risks. We are just about due for a win so hopefully this is the one that pays off.

Feel free to let us know of any multi’s you plan on putting on for the weekend in the comments section.

Good Luck!

Steve’s Sportingbet Multi of the Week – 2 December 2011

Last week we were let down by mid-week Champions league games with both Barcelona and Arsenal failing to get the job done, we didn’t even need them to win, just to be involved in a high scoring contest which is what both sides do best.

Well this week we’re lucky that we don’t have any mid-week European fixtures to mess us around, and as a result this week is a doozy!

Total payout for the 11 legs comes to $141.41 which is the highest I have ever put on to be honest. I’ve taken a mixture of English Premier League, Ligue 1, Bundesliga, Eredivisie, Serie A and La Liga to arrive at this weeks multi, with a combination of outright wins, overs/unders and +0.5 handicaps to boost the odds a little.

Have a look and let me know what you think, be sure to also let us know what multi’s you plan on placing this week too.

Barclays Premier League 2011/12 – Week 13 Preview & Team News

Week 13 of the Premier League kicks off just before midnight our time and this weekend there should be plenty of goals based on the matches that we’ve been handed.

The match of the week is obviously Liverpool v Manchester City at Anfield on Sunday, this should be a cracking match and could be the first time Man City tastes defeat in the EPL this season. Liverpool have a great record so far this year against the big guns, culminating in a 2-1 victory over Chelsea at Stamford Bridge last week.

Manchester City are coming off the back of a demoralising defeat at the hands of Napoli in the Champions League mid-week and it will be interesting to see how they pick themselves up. That loss sees their aspirations of continuing to the knock-out stages hanging in the balance as they now have to hope that Villareal beat Napoli and they do the job against Bayern Munich to advance.

The first of our Saturday matches comes to us from the Brittania Stadium, with Stoke City hosting Blackburn Rovers. Stoke are coming off a 2-3 loss to QPR at home last week so will no doubt like to put things right for their home fans this week. Blackburn scored a late penalty in a 3-3 draw with Wigan last week thanks to Yakubu in what was a dramatic match to say the least, they have conceded the second highest amount of goals this season and subsequently they sit in second last on the table.

The first of 6 viewers choice matches at 2am sees Bolton host Everton at the Reebok Stadium. Bolton had a 2-1 loss against West Brom last week while Everton had a 2-1 victory over Wolves. Everton moved themselves up to 12th on the table with a game in hand and a win here could see them move as high as 8th depending on other results. Bolton are stuck in the relegation places and just have the 1 home win to their name this season.

Chelsea head into their match against Wolves on a run of poor form that has seen them lose to Arsenal, Liverpool and then Bayer Leverkusen in the Champions League midweek which sees them on the edge of not qualifying for the next stage. They should pick themselves up here against a Wolves side that sit just outside the relegation places and don’t have a good record against the Blues.

Manchester United host Newcastle at Old Trafford looking to try and reduce the gap at the top of the table to just 2 points before Man City take on Liverpool. Man United have not been in great form but they have 3 wins from their last 3 EPL matches under their belt, all of them 1-0 which shows they still have a knack of grafting out wins despite being out of form. Newcastle suffered their first defeat against the other half of Manchester last weekend and will want to get back to winning ways after dropping to 4th on the table following that defeat. Alan Pardew’s men have been the surprise of the season so far and it will be interesting to see whether that loss galvanises them or sends them on a run of poor form.

QPR travel to Carrow Road to take on Norwich City after a thrilling 3-2 win over Stoke City last weekend. Norwich went down at home 2-1 against Arsenal and will want to get back to winning ways in front of their home fans here. Both sides currently sit mid table which is a great effort for two clubs that many predicted would go straight back down to the Championship.

Sunderland host Wigan at the Stadium of Light after a 0-0 draw against Fulham at home last week, Wigan played out a draw as well, but a much more entertaining 3-3 against Blackburn at the DW Stadium. Wigan boss Roberto Martinez was less than happy with the last minute penalty that saw Blackburn equalise and will want his team to tighten up at the back this week. Sunderland have been disappointing this season and will want to give their home fans something to cheer about after just one win at home so far this season.

Tottenham travel to the Hawthorns in the last of the 2am matches on Sunday morning and they will be buoyed by the fact that they have moved to 3rd on the ladder, albeit tied on points with Newcastle. Tottenham had a 2-0 win over Aston Villa last weekend which was set up by two first half goals to Emmanual Adebayor, they’ll want to continue that form here against a West Brom side that have scored just 5 goals at home all season, the lowest in the Premier League. To counter that, Tottenham have scored 11 away from home, the 3rd highest in the league.

Arsenal host Fulham at the Emirates in the later match (4.30am EST) on the back of 6 straight Premier League wins that has seen them move up to 7th on the table, equal on points with Liverpool and Chelsea. A great effort considering the start to the season that they had. They have their talisman Robin van Persie to thank for this as he is in the form of his life and you wouldn’t bet against him scoring a goal, or two, here in this match. Fulham had a 0-0 draw with Sunderland this week but they do not have a great record against their London neighbours.

Manchester City and Liverpool headline the Sunday Premier League action but the prelude to this match is Swansea City v Aston Villa from the Liberty Stadium. Last week Swansea went down 1-0 at home to Manchester United, and Aston Villa went down 2-0 to Tottenham. Both sides will be looking to get their seasons back on track. Swansea have been great at home, and Aston Villa not so great away from home so this could be an interesting match.

Team News
Saturday’s matches

Stoke City v Blackburn Rovers

Peter Crouch is an injury doubt as he has been nursing a groin complaint and along with midfield pair Matthew Etherington and Rory Delap (both back problems), will undergo a late fitness test. Tony Pulis has confirmed that goalkeeper Thomas Sorensen, who was picked ahead of Asmir Begovic for last week’s defeat against QPR, will keep his place in the starting XI.

Chris Samba and Martin Olsson are both likely to miss out with hamstring injuries, while Ryan Nelsen is back in training but not match-fit and David Dunn is suspended. Jason Lowe is back from his ban, Michel Salgado is expected to have shaken off a knock picked up last weekend while keeper Paul Robinson is available despite suffering a gashed head against Wigan.

Bolton Wanderers v Everton

Owen Coyle is hoping Dedryck Boyata will return to bolster Bolton’s survival fight, having been out for a month since injuring his ankle against Sunderland. With Joe Riley (hamstring) ruled out, the on-loan defender would be a welcome addition to Coyle’s injury-ravaged squad, but if he does not make it, Gretar Steinsson may be recalled as the Trotters try to scramble out of the relegation zone.

Everton manager David Moyes is waiting on fitness updates on at least three players; Jack Rodwell missed last week’s win at home to Wolves with a rib injury sustained on duty with the England senior side, while defenders Phil Neville (hamstring) and Sylvain Distin (groin) were also not available a week ago and will be assessed before the game.

Chelsea v Wolves

Ashley Cole has been passed fit after missing Wednesday’s Champions League defeat at Bayer Leverkusen with an inflamed ankle. Long-term knee injury victim Michael Essien is therefore Chelsea’s only absentee.

Mick McCarthy will be forced into making three changes through injury and suspension, with midfielders Jamie O’Hara and Stephen Hunt both serving one match bans for receiving five bookings this season and right-back Richard Stearman ruled out with a broken wrist. Matt Jarvis and Adlene Guedioura are the natural replacements for O’Hara and Hunt while Ronald Zubar is poised to make his first appearance for nine months after injury in place of Stearman.

Manchester United v Newcastle United

Wayne Rooney and Nemanja Vidic are set to return for Manchester United. Rooney missed Tuesday night’s draw with Benfica with a hip injury sustained last week at Swansea whilst Vidic was ruled out through suspension. However, both are included in a squad missing Anderson (knee), Michael Owen (thigh) and Tom Cleverley (ankle) as the Red Devils look to close the gap on leaders Manchester City to two points.

Gabriel Obertan will return to the Newcastle squad after missing the last two games with a toe infection, while fellow midfielder Danny Guthrie is also expected to be available – despite missing training this week because of a hip injury. However, Ivory Coast international Cheik Tiote (knee) and Ireland striker Leon Best (groin) remain doubts, while Sylvain Marveaux is expected to be sidelined for up to four months after undergoing groin surgery.

Norwich v QPR

Russell Martin will continue in central defence for Norwich but the club’s injury problems at the back look to be easing. Centre-backs Zak Whitbread and Daniel Ayala came through reserve matches and could be in contention to come off the substitutes’ bench this weekend. Ritchie de Laet is also training again after recovering from a back injury, while James Vaughan is still sidelined with a long-term knee injury, along with Elliott Ward.

QPR captain Joey Barton is suspended, while Heidar Helguson is a doubt after playing only a limited part in training because of his eye injury – but Fitz Hall, Jay Bothroyd, Jason Puncheon and Adel Taarabt are back. Matt Connolly (ankle), Kieron Dyer (foot), DJ Campbell (foot) and Brian Murphy (calf) are definitely out.

Sunderland v Wigan

Sebastian Larsson returns to the squad after suspension, while Titus Bramble continues to work on his fitness after shaking off a knee problem following his return from a club ban. Fraizer Campbell (knee ligaments) is on course to play a game of some form within the next fortnight and Connor Wickham (also knee ligaments) could start running next weekl. Goalkeepers Simon Mignolet (fractured nose and eye socket) and Craig Gordon (knee) remain on the sidelines.

James McCarthy is a doubt after suffering a groin problem and will be assessed ahead of the match, along with striker Franco Di Santo, who missed the 3-3 draw with Blackburn last weekend after suffering a minor tear in his quad. Fellow frontman Hugo Rodallega only featured as a substitute against Rovers having had a virus and could return to the starting line-up, while defender Antolin Alcaraz is unavailable again as he will be serving the second game of his three-match ban for spitting.

West Brom v Tottenham

West Brom have received a treble fitness boost with leading scorer Shane Long (leg) and fellow striker Peter Odemwingie (knee) to be fit. Midfielder Paul Scharner is also winning his race to face Spurs after a three-week lay-off with a knee setback.

Roman Pavlyuchenko could start his first Premier League game of the season as Jermain Defoe and Rafael van der Vaart could be missing through injury. Van der Vaart came off in the second half of the win over Aston Villa with a long-standing hamstring complaint, while Defoe is struggling with a groin injury he suffered in training. Michael Dawson (Achilles), Tom Huddlestone (ankle) Niko Kranjcar (thigh) and Danny Rose (ankle) are unavailable.

Arsenal v Fulham

Arsenal have reported no fresh injury problems; midfielder Thomas Rosicky (thigh) could be in contention after missing out against Dortmund in midweek, while Laurent Koscielny is set to continue at right-back in the absence of Carl Jenkinson (back) and Bacary Sagna (ankle). Midfielder Ryo Miyaichi (ankle) remains out, as does Jack Wilshere (ankle) and Kieran Gibbs (hernia).

Fulham will be without several first-team players, with Damien Duff missing the game with a calf problem, Stephen Kelly sidelined with a thigh injury, and Steve Sidwell (hernia), Zdenek Grygera (cruciate), Orlando Sa (hamstring) and Simon Davies (knee) also absent. John Arne Riise, though, returns after missing last week’s clash at Sunderland due to the birth of his son.

Sunday’s matches

Swansea City v Aston Villa

Brendan Rodgers is set to restore midfielder Joe Allen to his starting line-up after he had to settle for a place on the bench against Manchester United due to a calf problem. Centre-half Steven Caulker has returned to training after his knee injury, but is not likely to be risked.

On-loan midfielder Jermaine Jenas will return to the Villa squad after being ineligible to face his parent club Tottenham, though he has yet to start a game for Alex McLeish’s side. Sskipper Stiliyan Petrov (hamstring) and fellow midfielder Chris Herd (leg) are battling to be fit to face the Swans.

Manchester City v Liverpool

Mario Balotelli has recovered from a fever, having been sick during Tuesday’s Champions League defeat at Napoli. City have no other injury concerns following their trip to Italy but Carlos Tevez remains out of the first-team picture.

Kenny Dalglish is likely to keep changes to a minimum after last week’s win at Chelsea. Jamie Carragher, who returned to the squad at Stamford Bridge but was an unused sub, may have to settle for a place on the bench again. Stewart Downing will be pushing for a recall having been dropped last week after starting the first 11 league matches but captain Steven Gerrard is still not fit to return from an ankle infection.

Steve’s Sportingbet Multi of the Week – 25 November 2011

Another week, and another narrow Multi fail. This week I’ve pulled out all the stops and eliminated the home grown component of the Multi that tended to be the only leg that didn’t get up, so goodbye to the unpredictable A-League, and hello to the Eredivisie and the Scottish Premier League.

This weeks Multi comprises 11 legs but instead of taking a risk with one leg to boost the odds, this week I let the number of legs to that for me with odds of $80.34. The biggest Multi I have crafted to date and to be honest there aren’t too many legs that I’m particularly worried about.

Let me know of any Multi’s that you will be putting on this week so we can compare.

Good luck and happy betting!

Steve’s Sportingbet Multi of the Week – 18 November 2011

Last weeks multi went down in flames thanks to a lacklustre performance by the Socceroos against Oman and New Zealand bowing out of the Four Nations with an unlikely loss to the Poms.

This week I’ve mixed it up a bit of cricket thrown into the mix, along with the usual feast of European matches and a couple of A-League and Rugby League fixtures to give us a bit of variety.

In the EPL I’ve gone for a bit of a roughy with Liverpool away to Chelsea, taking the +0.5 handicap with Liverpool as I think they may be able to come away from Stamford Bridge with a draw. Still in England and I’m banking on the Aussies firing up in the Four Nations seeing as this will be Darren Lockyer’s last ever match, I’ve taken the HT/FT double in that one.

in the A-League I’ve gone with form and Sydney FC to at least get a draw against the Mariners tomorrow night. Over in South Africa I’ve gone for Phil Hughes to be the first man out, Shane Watson at the other end so they looked like good odds to me.

Over in Europe I’ve gone for a Paris St Germain win over Nancy in Ligue 1, Barcelona to score plenty of goals over Zaragoza in La Liga taking the total game score over 2.5 option, and I’ve taken that same option in the Bundesliga with Bayern Munich taking on Borussia Dortmund at home.

Total payout for this weeks multi is $17.49 and with just two risks in the Chelsea v Liverpool game and SA v AUS test match hopefully this week we can start getting back to winning ways.

Good luck!
