Sports Bet of the Week – Multibet 27 January 2012

Sports Bet of the Week

This weeks sports bet sees a return of the FA Cup as well as the final of the KFC Big Bash. We’ve also included the last men’s semi final and the women’s final of the Australian Open. To increase our odds and give us a bit more variety we’ve also included some of our traditional sports bets from the European football leagues.

Australian Open Tennis

Our multibet kicks off tonight with the semi final of the Australian Open between Novak Djokovic and Andy Murray. Djokovic has been struggling over the last couple of matches, it’s been put down to breathing issues. However, this has worked in our favour as his price is quite good considering he has had these issues for some time. They haven’t hampered his results in the past and I can’t see any reason they will tonight. We’ve taken the -4.5 game handicap in this one at $1.80.

The women’s final gets underway tomorrow night, we’ve taken the under 21.5 games option in this one. 4 out of the 6 matches between these two have ended in 2 sets and I see the same happening tomorrow.

KFC Big Bash Final

Our sports bet for this week heads to Perth for the KFC Big Bash final tomorrow night and for this one we’ve taken a less than conventional multibet leg. Being a final I don’t think there will be too many fireworks and there were great odds for the under 10.5 sixes option at $1.90.

Football – FA Cup

The FA Cup gets underway tomorrow night and we’ve selected 3 games from the round four action for this weeks multibet. Liverpool v Manchester United is the pick of the matches and we couldn’t go past the handicap option for the away side here. Manchester United +0.5 @ $1.46 is good value as I can’t see Liverpool getting any more than a draw after 90 minutes.

We’ve also gone for that option in the Brighton v Newcastle match, Newcastle should secure at least a draw by full time in that one.

Arsenal v Aston Villa is the final FA Cup leg, we’ve taken the under 2.5 option in this one as Arsenal have shown recently in the FA Cup that goals are hard to come by. Up against Premier League opposition I can’t see too many goals being scored once again.

Football – European

Our European football legs kick off tonight with the Dutch Eerste Divisie in full swing. Goals are the order of the day in this league and we’ve picked one match as a special to go over 2.5 goals, Eindhoven at home to Veendam.

In other European football matches we’ve taken the under 2.5 option in the Toulouse v Caen French Ligue 1 match. We’ve taken that same option in our multibet for the Serie A match between Fiorentina v Siena.

In the last leg of our sports bet, we couldn’t go past the over 2.5 option in the Villarreal v Barcelona match in La Liga. Barcelona score goals for fun in La Liga and despite their aversion to scoring goals away from home, this shouldn’t be an issue against Villareal. Odds of $1.50 were too good to turn down.

So there you have it, our sports bet of the week. This weeks multibet ended up with odds of $126.34. Let us know if you have any bets of your own to share in the comments section.

From Djoker to King?

Still  to be beaten in 2011, Novak Djokovic poses a real and ominous threat to Rafael Nadal’s number 1 ATP Tour ranking. At only 23 years of age, Djokovic’s irresistible form in 2011 has seen him win the Australian Open, Indian Wells and more recently the Miami Masters (both of ATP Masters Series Tournaments).

His 24 match unbeaten run has seen him collect the scalps of Nadal (twice), Federer (three times), Berdych and Murray on his way to winning every tournament he has entered this year. His victories against these tennis juggernauts have all come at the business end of each tournament signalling that the Serbian is truly hitting his straps and making legitimate claims of being the dominant force in Men’s tennis.

With Roger Federer losing the un-winnable battle against age and his aura of invincibility well and truly gone, we may have already witnessed FedEx’s greatest performances. It would however be naive to write this great man off as a racket wielding super power, but a massive question mark hangs over whether or not Federer will be able to match the new breed of young bucks on the ATP Tour.

Is the Djoke for real? With his rock solid ground strokes, his ever improving serve and controlled temperament this man is a bona fide force to be reckoned with. With Roland Garros just around the corner, many questions will be asked and answered. Although Djokovic has handed back-to-back finals beatings to World number 1 Nadal, for him to be truly considered the best in the world he will have to topple the Spaniard on clay. Head-to-head Nadal holds a 16-9 advantage over the Belgrader in career matches. Further, Nadal is 11-0 against Djokovic on all other surfaces other than hard courts and is probably regarded the best clay court player ever.

Djokovic is by no means a slouch on clay having reached the semi-finals at Roland Garros in 2007 and 2008  so this year’s French Open is set to become one of the more exciting Grand Slams in recent memory. Added to the Nadal-Djokovic-Federer “rivalry”, one can not discount the unbelievable talent currently gracing the ATP tour – Robin Soderling, Thomas Berdych, Andy Murray, Jo Wilfred Tsonga and my pick to become world number 1 one day, Juan Martin Del Potro.

If Djokovic emerges as the last man standing in this year’s French Open he will leave no doubt in any ones mind, players, fans and computer rankings alike, that he is the King of Men’s tennis.
